Philosophy:
The Hill Hockey Program, designed and ran by hockey directors Jerome Dupont and Annie Fahlenbock, is meticulously designed to combine individual development with a competitive game schedule to provide hockey players with a positive building environment that emphasizes hard work, hockey sense, discipline, and fun.
Hill Hockey works in complement with club hockey programs, allowing students to participate in both Hill Hockey, and their program outside of school. Practices are focused on individual skill development and developing a cerebral on-ice player. Students will use Hill Hockey to develop themselves further and in complement with their regular external club program.
Hill Hockey Training:
A typical Hill Hockey training practice combines three parts: skill development, hockey sense, and a fun team building period. Skill development includes power skating, stick handling, and goaltender development. Hockey sense development involves high speed, high intensity flow drills that focus on being aware on the ice, reacting to game like situations, and using your skills to find open ice and make plays. As Coach Dupont says “There is no such thing as both a good and dumb hockey player” which is why Hill Hockey emphasizes the development of hockey sense. In any sports program it is important that players have fun, which is a critical element to a Hill Hockey practice by implementing fun, game-like activities to finish off a training session. Hill Hockey uses these three areas to develop student athlete hockey players to the next level whether that is AAA, Junior A, Major Junior, or college hockey.
Development Above and Beyond:
The Hill Academy works closely with the Aurora Tigers Junior A hockey team, which plays in the OPJHL. Currently three students from The Hill Academy play for the Tigers, as well as train with the Hill Hockey program. Through this relationship, Hill Hockey student athletes are focused towards playing high level junior hockey and advancing towards goals of college and professional hockey.
With consistent hard work, commitment and dedication comes success.
