Philosophy

Lacrosse is one of the most amazing sports available for young women. It requires a great amount of athleticism, the use of strategy and most importantly, teamwork. It can be debated that one aspect of the sport cannot exist without the other. The complexity of the sport itself is usually what causes most who take up lacrosse to fall in love with it.

At The Hill, I have designed a fun, interactive, and creative approach to mastering the sport of women’s lacrosse. Through a combination of classroom work (theory) and field practice (practicum), Hill athletes will be exposed to a unique style of learning that is engaging, intense, positive, and above all, fun.

I believe even the most serious and intense athletes, when placed in a positive atmosphere, can find a balance between hard work and fun. And while I expect the women’s lacrosse program to be one of the hardest working programs on campus, I also anticipate that the athletes in our program will have an amazing experience.

Learning Tools:

  • Interactive mini-courses exploring the ‘History of Lacrosse’ and the make up of ‘The Modern Athlete’
  • Interactive and fun games used in the classroom and on the field, tapping into all 3 learning styles—kinesthetic, visual, and auditory—designed to help student-athletes learn rules, plays, and concepts
  • Highly organized and fast-paced practice sessions breaking down complex concepts step-by-step and building them up into game situations
  • Innovative drills, games, and contests designed to put stick-skill development on the fast track (‘The Wall Ball Alliance’)
  • Play days and scrimmages with local club teams
  • Guest coaches to help teach evolving techniques and styles from the NCAA
  • 1-3 US Tournament appearances each season

2009 – 2010 Lacrosse Season Curriculum:

The season will be broken up into 2 categories—Theory (classroom time) & Practicum (field time). Classroom time will account for approximately 25% of all practices (approximately 27 hours), while the rest of the time will be spent on the field (approximately 81 hours). Here is a detailed breakdown of what will be covered:
