The Hill Varsity Hockey team competed in the Cabernet Cup tournament at Chesswood arena this past week.
After completing the round robin undefeated (3 wins, 1 tie), they met up with rival PEAC in the semi-final. Despite putting fourth a great effort, the very young Hill squad ended up on the losing end of a 6-4 score. While trailing 3-0 in the semi- final match the boys were able to battle back to within a goal (5-4). Trailing by one, the team failed to capitalize on three great scoring opportunities to even up the game.
Overall, the boys battled very hard and should be proud of their efforts.
Congratulations to Isaak Iacobucci, Liam Hynes, Matthew Van Galen, and Mitchell Datz for being selected to participate in the tournament skills competition. Iacobucci won the fastest skater competition during the skills challenge, and also partnered up with Hynes and Van Galen to win the trio shootout.
The Hill’s Varsity hockey program is based around individual skill development.
Players skate three times a week to work on their skating, puck handling, passing and shooting. In terms of power skating, the emphasis is placed on stride efficiency and edge control. All drills are individually based and designed around tight space stickhandling and speed to stay in line with the growth of Canada’s National sport.
Tournaments and exhibition games are provided to enhance school spirit and provide the players with a chance to represent The Hill Academy against other high schools across Ontario.
