Skills Coach & Admissions Manager
A graduate of Yale University, Rob played 4 seasons with the Bulldogs and left his mark by taking home the 2019 David C. Noyes III Award and 2017 Martin Dwyer III Award, both presented by the Yale Hockey Association.
Before Yale, Rob played three seasons with the USHL Muskegon Lumberjacks and served as team captain in 2015. Rob is a proud Hill Academy Alumnus, spending 4 years at the school, and one season as the captain of the Hill Academy Prep Team. Rob played his minor hockey for the GTHL Vaughan Kings and was drafted by the Windsor Spitfires after his minor midget season.
Assistant Coach Prep Hockey
Brett has an extensive and impressive hockey background. Brett received a NCAA Division 1 scholarship to Mercyhurst University. He played 4 seasons with the Lakers and graduated with a BA in Sport Business.
After graduating Brett went on to play more then 500 games professionally throughout his 10-year career across the United States and Europe. Brett has a strong desire to teach and develop future players.
The past 3 years Brett has focused on coaching and high-level on-ice skill development for athletes of all ages, including NHL, NCAA, OHL and Jr.A players.
Hill Varsity Hockey
The Varsity Hockey Program at The Hill is based primarily around skill development. As opposed to our U16 and U18 Prep programs, which are team based, Varsity players continue to play for the minor hockey association teams that they belong to.
It is a complete on and off ice development program which includes on ice sessions with professional skills experts and off ice information sessions with sport and industry leaders.
In addition, the Varsity Program participates as a team to represent The Hill Academy at various tournaments around the GTA. We do our best to ensure that these games do not conflict with their minor hockey schedules.
Hill Girls Hockey
This program is specifically designed to enhance the development of players born in 2006 and 2007 and will run as a girls AA program. Female hockey players are now being recruited at the university level as early as the Bantam level and by addressing full development at the Pee Wee age, players will be better prepared on and off the ice for the upcoming opportunities that will be presented.
The Hill program is able to have the three main aspects of a student-athletes experience (on-ice development, off ice training and academics) work in conjunction with each other while providing the athlete proper time time for rest and recovery so they are able to maximize each session or class to reach their full potential.
The program will be led by former NCAA coaches and/or players who understand what it takes not only to make it to that level, but more importantly, to succeed.
HOCKEY COACHING STAFF
General Manager - Hockey
After an impressive playing career, we are proud to have Brett MacLean as the General Manager of Varsity Hockey. Brett was the 1st round pick of the 2004 OHL draft. He played 245 games between the Erie Otter and Oshawa Generals and recorded 288 points in 245 OHL games including a league leading 61 goals in 2007-2008. Brett was a 2nd round NHL pick to the Phoenix Coyotes and played at the professional level for four years. After being forced to retire early because of a heart condition, Brett went on to the University of Waterloo to obtain his Bachelor’s degree, where he also served as their Assistant Men’s Hockey coach.
Head Coach Prep Hockey
This is Travis’ seventh year as a coach for the prep hockey team. He is a graduate of the University of Maine. After playing NCAA Division I hockey for the Black Bears, Travis went on to play 8 years of professional hockey in North America and Europe. During his professional playing career Travis was also able to complete his master’s degree in education.
Hill Prep Hockey
The Hill Academy Prep Hockey Program is meticulously designed to enhance individual skill development and provide players with a positive skill-building environment that emphasizes hard work, development, discipline, and fun. The Hill Prep Hockey program is designed to best prepare our players for the next level while providing OHL, USHL, BCHL, and NCAA exposure and opportunities.
We provide a safe and educational learning environment while making our players accountable for their actions both on and off the ice. The Hill Prep Hockey Program provides a rigorous and elite level, school year round schedule with daily practices with professional level coaches.
The Hill Academy attracts players that are first and foremost quality people. A Hill Academy prospective student-athlete will be examined for academic, athletic, and personal qualities, all which will be taken into consideration in the admissions process.
