We acknowledge the land on which our school, The Hill Academy, stands is part of the Treaty 19 lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the New Credit. It is on this land that we are given the opportunity to learn and to play the game that their ancestors created.
The place where we stand together today was previously inhabited by the Mississaugas of the Credit, and was also the territory of the Anishinaabe, Ojibway, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and Métis.
We recognize the history of cultural genocide, untruthful treaties, and how the residential school system caused damage and suffering to Indigenous communities in Canada. We at The Hill Academy understand the importance of reconciliation and are ready to take this necessary first step.
