Caledon, ON [June 26, 2024] - The Hill Academy, an independent school for dedicated student-athletes, is celebrating the announcement of two Hill Lacrosse alumnae: Mia Mitchell and Kendyl Pollack to the Haudenosaunee Nationals roster, in addition to four alumnae; Olivia Bladon, Dacia Cordingley, Jillian Goldie and Brooke Piper to the Lacrosse Canada roster for the upcoming U20 Women's World Championship in Hong Kong.
"I am just beyond proud that these young women will be able to showcase their abilities on the world stage" said Tory Merrill, Principal and Head Coach of the Girls Lacrosse team at The Hill Academy. "Mia, Kendyl, Dacia, Jillian, Brooke and Alex have excelled at every level, and I have no doubt that they will continue to see success on both the collegiate and international stage."
Kendyl Pollack, Midfielder from Fairfield, is currently a member of the Hill's Girl's Lacrosse Team and is part of the Class of 2026.
Mia Mitchell, Attack from Akwesasne, made eight appearances in her sophomore season with UMASS Lowell, recording her first hat trick as a River Hawk.
Brooke Piper, Midfielder from Aurora, has just completed her sophomore season at St. Bonaventure University, having started all 17 games for the Bonnies, earning Second Team All-Conference honours and setting the program's single season record for draw controls with 68.
Jillian Goldie, Midfielder from Owen Sound, started all 18 games as a Freshman for UMASS Lowell, finishing with a team-leading 19 assists and 31 goals.
Dacia Cordingley, Midfielder from Orangeville and a member of The Hill Academy's Class of 2024, is committed to the University of Massachusetts for the 2024-25 academic year.
Olivia Bladon, Midfielder from Newmarket, finished her sophomore season at the University of Indianapolis, starting 20 games and leading the Greyhounds in goals (64), shots (96) and draws controlled (83).
The World Lacrosse 2024 Women's U20 Championship will be contested in Hong Kong, China from August 15-24, 2024. The Championship, previously the World Lacrosse Women's U19 Championship, has been held once every four years since its inception in 1995. The United States has been crowned champions five times, including the most recent championship which was played in 2019 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
The Hill Academy's newest coach, Erica Evans remembers her time at the event fondly, leading Canada to its last U20 championship in 2015. "What a special time it will be for these Hill Academy alumnae," Evans said. "This will be an excellent proving ground as we continue to prepare for the return of lacrosse to the LA 28 Olympic Games." Evans will begin the 2024-25 academic year at The Hill Academy coaching the newly minted girl’s junior lacrosse team consisting of 2011s, 2012s and 2013s.
