The Hill Academy congratulates World Lacrosse and LA28 games on inclusion of Lacrosse

Caledon, ON [October 19, 2023] - Following the announcement of the inclusion of Lacrosse in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games, The Hill Academy extends its congratulations to World Lacrosse, the International Olympic Committee and all parties involved in the sport making its return to the Olympic stage.

At the LA28 games, lacrosse will be contested in men's and women's sixes, which is a globally accessible, hybrid version of the game, taking elements of both box and field lacrosse. The Hill Academy has a long history of support for all versions of the game, most notably with Athletic Director Brodie Merrill coaching the Lacrosse Canada Men's Sixes team at the 2022 World Games.

"This announcement is really exciting, and I cannot wait to see our young men and women take on the world" said Merrill. "The sixes discipline takes the skill and quick decision-making from box and mixes it with the athleticism and versatility required to be a good field player. For those that haven't seen it played before, I think you're really going to like it."

The return of Lacrosse to the Olympic stage comes for the first time since being contested in 1908 (London) and 1904 (St. Louis), while also being featured as a demonstration sport at the Amsterdam 1928, Los Angeles 1932 and London 1948 games. Canada will enter LA28 as the two-time defending Gold Medal Champions.

The Hill Academy has had over 150 athletes represent their country by playing or coaching at World Lacrosse events such as the World Games, World Championships, Box World Championships, and U20 World Championships. The Hill Lacrosse alumni can be found on the rosters of Canada, Haudenosaunee, England, Israel, Ireland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Jamaica, and Poland, to name a few.

"The gravity of this announcement is so immense. It’s exciting right now, but what this will do for the growth of the game globally is monumental" said Hill Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Carly Quinn. "To think that these young girls that are coming up in the game right now will have an opportunity to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best athletes in the world on the biggest stage. I'm just so proud to be involved with such an amazing sport that we now get to share with the rest of the world.”

The Hill Academy's Lacrosse program balances a rigorous academic schedule with a focus on developing student-athletes through strength and conditioning and world class coaching to reach their next highest level of achievement. The Prep, Varsity and Junior School level players have also competed in box and sixes events.
