The Hill Hockey earns Wild Card entry into U14 OHL Cup

Caledon, ON [April 3, 2024] - The Hill Academy will celebrate the end of the hockey season as the first Hockey Canada sanctioned AAA private school program in Ontario, with a wild card invite to the esteemed U14 OHL Cup Presented by Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

"What is amazing to see is the work that these dedicated student-athletes have put in this season, and how they are being rewarded with an opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the province," Director of Hockey and U14AAA Head Coach Ryan Toomey said. "Receiving Hockey Canada sanctioning was a big step for the program, but I could argue that receiving this wild card berth into such a great event is the biggest moment in this hockey program's history."

The U14 OHL Cup Presented by Dairy Farmers of Ontario was created by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), in partnership with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and will feature 16 of the top U14AAA teams. This year's event will take place at the INVISTA Centre in Kingston on April 19-21. With a similar unifying format to the U16 OHL Cup, this end of season event also provides an introduction to the OHL for players and parents. Participating teams this year include:

OMHA (4): Barrie Colts, York-Simcoe Express, Quinte Red Devils and Credit River Capitals

GTHL (3): Markham Majors, Mississauga Senators and Toronto Jr. Canadiens

Alliance (3): Sun County Panthers, Brantford 99ers, and Winner of London Jr. Knights/Huron-Perth Lakers

HEO (2): Ottawa Jr 67s and Ottawa Myers Automotive

NOHA (1): Team Northern Ontario Hockey Association

Wildcard (3): The Hill Academy, Buffalo Junior Sabres and Vaughan Kings

The Hill Academy is extremely proud to be working with the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada, as the relationship continues to grow after a successful first year as Hockey Canada's only AAA sanctioned private school program in Ontario.

"We are so honoured and would like to thank the OMHA, OHF and Hockey Canada for working alongside us this season. We have built a comprehensive program that includes high performance hockey, academic excellence, performance training and character development, all under one roof, " said The Hill Academy's  Director of Athlete Development, Drazen Glisic. "To see the growth of this program over the last 20 years, our inclusion in the OHL Cup pays homage to the success of our alumni, and the reputation of our institution."

Student-athletes at The Hill have the distinct advantage of a balanced schedule that includes a full academic program (following the Ontario curriculum), while also participating in a high-level sport program as part of their school day and providing exposure to next level opportunities.

Junior Development (Gr. 5-8)

Varsity (Gr. 9-12)
